

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 2:00pm in Parkhill Cemetery at Chapel of Pines Mausoleum with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. Family will visit with friends after the service.
Faye Wright McCollum was born in 1940 in Columbus, Georgia to the late Fannie Wright and J.B. Wright. She grew up in the Heard County area. Mrs. McCollum graduated from the University of West Georgia with a degree in Elementary Education, adding advanced degrees later. She was married to James “Bob” McCollum on June 11, 1961.
Returning to Columbus in 1976, Georgia Mrs. McCollum became an educator with the Muscogee County School District, teaching both elementary and middle school. She was a creative teacher who was good at making learning interesting. Later she became an Instructional Specialist for Math and Science in the Muscogee County School District. She was a vivacious, outgoing woman who made people feel welcome.
She served as a member of the Miss Georgia Board of Trustees, a hostess for the Miss GA Pageant and judged many pageants in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida.
The American Meteorological Society chose her as Education Resource Associate and she helped teach a course for their Datastreme Ocean program. She was also a member of the NASA Teacher in Space program.
Performances with the New Orleans Opera Company, Summer Pops and the Robert Shaw Chorale provided her with an extensive background in music and acting. Mrs. McCollum also presented programs at international weather conferences and acted as a stand-in for Barbara Eden in the NBC Movie, “Your Mother Wears Combat Boots”
She also enjoyed gardening, bargain-hunting, and volunteering at the River Center.
As a loving wife, mother, sister and aunt, Mrs. McCollum will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her sister, Gerilla “Jo” Goetsch.
She leaves her husband, James “Bob” McCollum; daughter, Shawn Worth; brothers: Archie Wright and Alford Wright; and loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives to cherish her memory.
