Fern Washington

Fern was born on August 28, 1956 in Anniston, Alabama to the late Lela Mae Hamilton. She was a two time graduate from Anniston high school and Gasden Business College where she obtained an associates degree in business. Fern was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she sang in the choir ever since she was a child, she attended Mount olive Baptist Church for a brief time, then returning to Baptist Friendship church in 2012 to 2017.She loved to laugh. She was very specific with things she wanted done, especially how her food was prepared, Ice in everything she drank, and her water had to be extremely hot for bathing.

She was a spiritual loving mother.She loved singing gospel music and would try to have any and everyone join in and sing along. Sewing was her passion, once moving around independently became a chore, she became a word search book champ. She spent a great deal of her time finishing the search crossword books, watching her game shows, HDTV, shows she grew up Watching, and the NBA for sports, specifically the Lakers.

Fern gave birth to three children, who were her pride and joy. If you really Wanted to see her smile, bring all three of her children and their children around her and that was all she needed. Family has always been a desire of hers. She Cherished having a real genuine loving family of her own.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Lela Mae Hamilton, brother, Harry Hamilton, two sisters, Vanessa Hill and Doretha Hamilton.

Fern is survived by her three children, Keashia Raven, Demetrius Hamilton, Donshelia Washington, her husband of 48 years, Walter B. Washington, sister, Earline Gail McClure, and a slew of nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends for Fern will be held Friday, October 4, 2024 at 1:00 PM. Following the visitation for family and friends will be a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. A repass will be held at 3:15PM following the services at The Place ,1828 Midtown Dr Columbus,GA 31906.
