Fester Scovil

Fester Scovil, age 88, resident of Columbus, was called home to live with his Savior on Thursday, September 29, 2010. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Monday, October 4, 2010, 2 p.m. with Reverend E. Merle Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 3, 2010 from 4-6 p.m. Mr. Scovil, son of the late James Scovil and Girle Hill Scovil, was born May 6, 1922 in Barbour County, Alabama. He received Christ at an early age and was a hardworking man. Mr. Scovil worked at Carterville Mills for many years until he became ill. He was preceded in death by eight siblings and one daughter, Bonnie Kate Wangle Scovil. Mr. Scovil leaves behind a loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy Mae Scovil of Columbus; seven daughters, Fannie (Gerald) Frazier of Gary, Indiana, Murley Lee Davis, Annie (Charles) Ashford, Tee (Harold) Milner, Mary (Joseph) Bruce, Linda Farley, and Jennifer (George) Banks; three sons, Sylvester Scovil, Leroy Scovil, and James Scovil; two sisters, Nettie Pearle Boykin of Clayton, AL and Estelle Toney of Newton, NJ; 25 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
