Frances was born on September 21, 1924 to Eva Mongomery Wall and Edmond Wall in Taylor County, Georgia. She was an honors graduate from Butler High School. Around this time she met her husband to be, James Welch. They soon married and began a wonderful life together. She was a War Bride who kept the home front down, raising their first child Jane while James served in World War II for two years.
They moved to Columbus on his return and she played a strong role in helping him build his business, James Welch Construction Company. They loved to travel. They were either planning a trip or were on a trip. Their son Eddie was an Auburn Football player whom they were so proud of, she never missed a game either home or away. She would still watch Auburn on TV until the end.
She was an avid gardener, seamstress and maker of wonderful meals and wonderful memories. Her family was always her highest priority. She was very involved in their lives. She was an extremely strong woman who took on a lot of adversities in her life. She was a longtime member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church and very active as an Exchangette for several years.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Martha McQuillian, her son Eddie and son-in-law, Steve Cummings.
Left to cherish her loving memory are her daughters, Jane Welch and Gail Cummings; her grandchildren: Carson (Barbara) Cummings and Brad Cummings; three great grandchildren: Carson, Ford and Jac Cummings; her wonderful caregivers who are like family, Seliar Copeland and Angela Byrd.
