Frederick Leonard Hoffman, born on September 20, 1944, in Saginaw, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, in Columbus, Georgia, at the age of 81. He was the beloved son of Leonard Earl Hoffman and Barbara Jean Rathbun Hoffman, and a cherished brother to Richard Rathbun Hoffman.
Fred shared a remarkable 58-year journey of love and companionship with his devoted wife, Anne Hoffman. Their enduring bond was a testament to unwavering commitment and affection. Anne lovingly reflected, "You have been my heart, my soul, my best friend, my heartache, my frustration, and my love for almost sixty years. You made my heart flutter then and have always given me butterflies—even in our difficult times. You are my forever. I love you."
Fred was a proud and loving father to Amy Hoffman Carlson and Matthew Frederick Hoffman. Amy and her husband Chris Carlson blessed him with three grandchildren: Riley Christopher, John Wesley, and Meghan Piper. Matthew and his wife Amy brought three more grandchildren into his life: Grace Marie, Gabriel Matthew, and Zoe Charis. Fred's legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were his greatest pride and joy.
Professionally, Fred dedicated his life to finance and accounting, earning respect for his diligence, integrity, and unwavering work ethic. His contributions to his family and community were profound and lasting. He was a man of loyalty, generosity, and quiet strength.
Fred found joy in skiing with his family, fishing, watching college football—especially cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs—and playing bridge. His kindness and compassion touched many lives, and his wisdom and love left an indelible mark on those around him. He also deeply loved singing in the choir, where his voice and spirit uplifted those around him.
Throughout their 58 years together, Fred and Anne moved 16 times, attending numerous churches and forming lifelong friendships. Their final spiritual home was Living Water Yard Church in Columbus, Georgia, where they found peace and fellowship.
A memorial service will be held at Striffler-Hamby Funeral Home in Columbus, Georgia, on October 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM, to honor and celebrate the life of a remarkable man whose love and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
