

Frederick Lawson “Fred” Ghent, age 63, passed away on May 1, 2012. Funeral services will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA, on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at 1:00 pm, with Reverend Andy Merritt officiating. Private burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary from 11:30-12:30 pm, prior to the 1:00 pm service.
Mr. Ghent was born in 1948 to Frederick Leon and Wynona Cameron Ghent at Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, AL. Mr. Ghent graduated from Columbus State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He had a successful career in accounting and financial analysis that encompassed a period of 37 years, working for Champion Packaging in the first part of his career followed by his most recent role as Chief Financial Officer for Jones & Minear Homebuilders.
Mr. Ghent will be remembered for his dedication to his family. He and his wife Sally Chandler Ghent lived a wonderful life together for 42 years, and together they fostered a love for animals, including their current pets Jake and Laci. He was a beloved husband, a devoted son, a supportive brother, a loving and giving uncle, and an unfailing pillar of support to his dear mother.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Ghent is survived by his mother Wynona Cameron Ghent; sister Nona Ghent and her husband, Larry Newhard; brothers Ralph Dale Ghent and his wife Kathleen and Charles Cameron Ghent and his wife Barbara; nieces, Julie Patterson and her husband Tom and their sons Conor and Jason, and Grace Ghent; nephews Dale Ghent and Andrew Ghent; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
