Gene Carter

Gene Carter, 79, of Columbus, GA died Friday July 16, 2010 at the St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 20, 2010 in the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 with burial to follow in Parkhill cemetery. Reverend John Rigsby will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Carter was born February 6, 1931 in Pike County, AL; son of the late William Anderson Carter and Mattie Dyess Carter. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, and four sisters. Mr. Carter was retired from the parts department at Bill Heard with 20 years of service. Survivors include his daughter, Cindy Thompson and her husband, Randall of McDonough, GA; a son, Pete Rodda and his wife, Gretchen of Winston Salem, NC; six siblings, Mollie Evans of Columbus, Hilton Carter of Brundridge, AL, Max Carter of Phenix City, AL, Meritta Findley of Gainesville, FL, Jimmy Carter of Auburn, AL, and Bill Carter of Troy, AL; three grandchildren, Sean Thompson of McDonough, GA, Jonathan Rodda of Winston Salem, NC, and Leslie Wade of Cape Carteret, NC; and one great grandson, Jackson Arrington Wade of Cape Carteret, NC.
