Gordon Ray Harrison

Gordon Ray Harrison, age 74, passed away on December 30, 2010. Funeral services will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 1959 Hamilton Road, Columbus, GA 31904.

Mr. Harrison was born on December 25, 1936 to the late Joe Phil Harrison and Eva Dodson Harrison. He attended private school as a child with Mrs. Shelby Compton. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was actively involved with the Cerebral Palsy Center. Mr. Harrison lived with his mother until her death and moved to the Ralston Towers. He lived at Magnolia Manor for the last two years of his life. Mr. Harrison enjoyed exploring downtown Columbus in his motorized wheelchair and made friends everywhere he went. His hobbies included needlepoint, volunteering for local charities and also collecting and rolling papers for a local fish market.

Survivors include his sister, Joanne Harrison of Columbus and several cousins.
