

Mac was born in Dothan, AL on May 31, 1925. At age 17 he joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Reno as the Captain's bridge talker. After WWII Mac earned an Associate degree in Business Administration. He was a bookkeeper for Dothan Lincoln-Mercury and later owned a dealership in Hartford, AL. After auto sales he began selling life insurance for Prudential and did so for the next forty-five years. Retiring from Prudential, Mac stayed busy volunteering with Red Cross and then ran a crew for Carpenters for Christ. He and wife, Frances (deceased) volunteered with the Columbus Consolidated Government Voter Registration, initially working at election days polls. Eventually, Mac would be hired to work a decade in the Voter Registration offices. He finally retired for good in 2023 at age 98.
Mac is survived by his sons Ken (Sindi), Mark (Paula) and Mike. Mac has ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Predeceased are wife, Frances Walker McGowan and daughter, Linda Williams.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia, 31907. A visitation will be held for friends and family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home..
