Herbert Lee Slayden, Jr. (Herby/Herb) 86 of Cumming, Georgia died after a brief illness on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Herby was born in Lyons, Georgia on November 29, 1938, to the late Herbert Lee and Marion Lilliott Slayden. Along with his parents he is predeceased by his son, Herbert Lee Slayden III, his brother and sister-in-law, Kay and Nancy Slayden, and his mother-in- law Margaret Triplett.
Herby attended Marvin Yancey School in Lyons, Georgia, and in 1947 the family moved to Columbus where Herby grew up. He attended Tillinghurst Elementary and Columbus Junior High School. He graduated from Jordan Vocational High School in 1956 and was an outstanding basketball player. Following graduation, he played basketball at Auburn University and LaGrange College.
He had a successful career working for GE and The Foxboro Company as a Process Control Engineer and later opened his own computer company, Meta Tech, writing software programs for police departments and libraries throughout the southeast. Herby had a wonderful sense of humor and was an excellent storyteller. He enjoyed all sports, riding motorcycles and collecting cars. He loved his family and never forgot his South Georgia roots and the Red Dirt Road. Through the years he and Carolyn had beloved pets that gave them many hours of pleasure.
Survivors include his loving wife, Carolyn Lloyd Slayden, and two sisters, Janice Polmatier (Dick) and Martha Bonner (Frank), two nieces Joy Bonner Anthony (Aaron), April Bonner Kemp (Britt), four nephews Charles Polmatier (Tiffany), John Polmatier, Kevin Slayden (Nancy), Stephen Slayden (Tiffany), a host of cousins, great nieces and nephews, and extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15 from 11:30 am to 12:15 pm followed by Family Graveside Services at Parkhill Cemetery at 12:45 pm.
