Jack McGill

Jack McGill, age 78, of Columbus, GA passed Sunday, October 14, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2018 at Striffler-Hamby of Columbus with Rev. Hank Reeves officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Mr. McGill was born May 14, 1940 in Columbus, GA, the son of the late Henry and Berta Lou Johnson McGill. He would meet the love of his life Carol Thomason and they would spend 40 plus cherished years together. Afterward he would go on with his career as a boilermaker working into his seventies. Work was a big part of his life and he enjoyed what he did. With his hectic schedule he didn’t have time for very many hobbies but he did enjoy being a grandfather and attending any type of extracurricular activities in which his grandchildren were involved. He was a very devoted husband and father and all around good person.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carol McGill, parents and three brothers, Jabo, Buddy, and Billy McGill; three sisters, Martha Wynn, Ann Morrison, and Betty Grimes. Survivors include two children; Jay McGill (Esperanza) and Jill McGill Davis (Brad), five grandchildren, Jared McGill, Aaron McGill, Ashley Davis, Abigail Davis, Beau Davis; one great grandchild, Conor Johnson; sister, Janie Cannon; sister in law, Judy Barentine and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
