

Dr. Jackson “Buddy” Garrett Crowder, age 81, resident of Columbus, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Gentiva Hospice. Funeral Services are scheduled on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 2:00pm in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road Columbus, GA 31907 with Dr. Kevin Calhoun officiating. Interment will follow at Marsielles Cemetery in West Point, GA at 4:00pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Edgewood Hall on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 5:00-7:00pm.
Dr. Crowder, son of the late James Garrett Crowder and Thelma Brewer Crowder, was born December 24, 1934 in West Point, Georgia. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. Dr. Crowder was a dignified and gentle man who was respected by his colleagues and many others. He really showed Christ through his life and was a member of Wynnbrook Baptist Church. Dr. Crowder attended West Point High School, graduated from Emory University as well as the Medical College of Georgia where he graduated 2nd in his class. He worked as Associate Professor at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis and started a Private Medical Practice in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease from 1973-1989. Dr. Crowder most recently worked as Chief of Medicine at Midtown Medical Center from 1989–2006, teaching and mentoring many Interns and Residents. He took part in many professional organizations such as; The American Medical Association, Medical Association of Georgia, Muscogee County Medical Society (where he served as secretary for many years), American College of Physicians, Chi Phi Fraternity, and Phi Chi Medical Fraternity. Dr. Crowder also served our country honorably as Captain in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carole Crowder; sons, Jackson Crowder, Jr. (Carla), Jimmy Crowder (Kristina); daughter, Mary Ann Brookshire (Tony); grandchildren, Lindsey McGovern (Nick), Lauren Brookshire, Drew Edwards (Whitney), Rett Crowder, Tim Brookshire (Kimberly), Alaina Barringer (Trotter), Tyler Brookshire (Rachelle), Ryan Crowder, Daniel Crowder; great grandchildren, Kinley, Campbell, Bryson, Nathan, Maddox, Bennett, and Aiden.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Wynnbrook Baptist Church, Chi Phi Fraternity, or Phi Chi Medical Fraternity.
