James Dooney Mayberry Alston Jr.

Mr. Alston was born December 28, 1928 in Stewart County, GA, the son of the late James M. Alston, Sr. and Mary Emma Jones Alston. He had lived in Columbus, GA most of his life and was a member of Northside Chapel Church of God where he dedicated many years of service. He retired from Swift Textiles after almost 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years Bettie Ruth “BeBe” Whiddon Alston and his second wife Eva Jamieson Daniel Alston of 5 years; sister Estelle Alston Riles, and brothers Ray A. Alston and Joe Alston. Survivors include brother Tommy R. Alston of Brevard, NC and Cocoa, FL and sister Mary Nell Alston (Rubyn) Howell of Grand Island, FL; sisters-in-law Mrs. Gail Alston (Russell) Williams and Mrs. Frances (J.R.) Parker; stepchildren Patsy Daniel of Cummings, GA and Kenny Daniel of Phenix City, AL; special niece and nephew Ruthie and Charlie Hamlin and his special puppy Jedadiah Hamlin of Richland, GA; two God- children, Michael Griffeth and Kimberly Griffeth; and several nieces, nephews and other family members.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday September 2, 2016 at Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, GA with Reverends Larry Biggers and Ricky Ward officiating. The family will receive friends in The Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby Thursday evening September 1, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
