James Bacon 1926 - October 15, 2010 COLUMBUS, GA— James Bacon, age 84, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2010. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 18, 2010 at 12:30 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Rev. Gene Boyd and Rev. David Fowler officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 PM at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 17 from 4:00 Ð 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Rd., Columbus, GA 31909. Mr. Bacon was born in Golden, Mississippi in 1926 to the late George A. Bacon and Ema Nunley Bacon. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Bacon retired from Zales Corporation after 42 years of service. Mr. Bacon was a member of Cascade Hills Church and a devoted husband, loving father and Papaw. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann McCarley Bacon. He is survived by his children, Sandy (Mike) Socci of Columbus, Tim Bacon & Bo Waddell of Atlanta, Leigh (Keith) Morrison of Birmingham, AL and Lynn (Randy) Brown of Columbus; four grandchildren, Courtney (Tim) Watley, Chris (Jenna) Socci, Justin Barnes and Miranda Brown; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Locklar and Michael Watley; three brothers, G.W. Bacon, Donald Bacon and Johnny Bacon as well as four sisters, Evie Barnes, Jewell Coburn, Willa Crowell and Beatrice Hooper also survive. Please visit www.shcolumbus.com to express condolences.
