James R. Holmes, age 87, of Warm Springs, Georgia passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021. James was born June 19, 1934 in Taladega, Alabama to Rushie Worthy Holmes and Thomas Franklin Holmes. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was married to the love of his life, Bettie L. Harrell. After his retirement from the Navy, James and Bettie called Columbus home. He worked for Columbus Carpet Mill Store until his second retirement. He was Christian by faith.
James is survived by his beloved wife, Bettie L. Holmes; son James Robert "Bob" Holmes (Joyce); and son Cregg Holmes (Deborah "Debbie"); five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
James was preceded in death by father Thomas Franklin Holmes and mother Rushie Worthy Holmes.
A visitation for family and friends for James will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia, followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM with Rev. Joel Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery.
