

Janie LaVerne Phiilips, age 84, resident of Columbus, died on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Bud Rupel officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. till 10:30 a.m.
Miss Phillips, daughter of the late Johnnie Bradford Phillips and Willie Jane Moncus Phillips, was born June 30, 1930 in Sale City, Georgia. She was a member of the former Benning Park Assembly of God Church where she also taught Sunday School. Miss Phillips was a graduate of Turner Private School and was always a happy, cheerful, and outgoing young lady, never complaining about anything. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing and listen to the radio.
Miss Phillips was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Williamson. She is survived by two sisters, Evelyn Milner and Edna Dubois, both of Columbus; one brother, Lamar Phillips of Decatur, Georgia; six nieces, Judith (Tom) Woodhams, Brenda (Steve) Simonton, Jacque (Bob) Murray, Lindy (Burt) Kelling, Suzanne Sanchez, and Cynthia (Chad Bowles) Taber; several great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
