

Jean Rhodes McDonald, of Columbus, Georgia died on September 6, 2016 at Brookside Glen Assisted Living Facility. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum in Parkhill Cemetery at 11:00am with Chaplin Mike Fortenberry officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Mrs. McDonald, daughter of the late Thomas Tobias Rhodes and Willie Larkins Rhodes, was born February 27, 1923 in Elba, Alabama.
She graduated from Alabama College for Women, Montevallo, AL. and later attended Graduate School at Tulane University, New Orleans, LA. Mrs. McDonald came to Columbus to work as a social worker for the USO Travelers Aid. She later worked with the Family Counseling Center where she was assigned to St. Francis Hospital as a social worker for several years before retirement. Mrs. McDonald was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and member of the Miller Wilson Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy E. McDonald; sister, Marguerite Rhodes.
Mrs. McDonald is survived by her son, Tommy McDonald (Jeanie) of Columbus; grandchildren, Allison Murfee (Brad) of Watkinsville, GA, Jon McDonald (Taylor) of Auburn, AL, Meredith McDonald of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Sarah Kate Murfee, Mac Murfee, and Bo McDonald.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brookside Glen and the staff of Gentiva Hospice for providing excellent care and compassion during the past four years. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the charity of your choice.
