Jesse Truvillion

Reverend Dr. Jesse Garfield Truvillion was born on October 24, 1934, in Wiergate, Texas. A devoted preacher for 52 years, he served as a pastor in Presbyterian churches across Texas, New Jersey, California, Ohio, Florida, and New York.

Jesse was a lifelong scholar and educator. He earned a Master of Arts and a Master of Divinity before obtaining his Doctor of Divinity from Northern Baptist Seminary in Newark, New Jersey. In addition to his pastoral work, he was a dedicated teacher and adjunct professor. He was a proud member of the Theta Phi Honor Society.

Beyond his ministry and academic pursuits, Jesse found joy in traveling, reading, and writing.

Jesse was married to Mary Lockhart, with whom he had one son, Mark. After their divorce, he later married Mary “Jean” McClendon Reed.

On March 5, 2025, Jesse departed this life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Henry and O’Neal Truvillion; his wives, Mary Lockhart Truvillion and Mary Jean Truvillion; his son, Mark Truvillion; his brother, Jim Truvillion; and his sister, Modestine Wesley.

He leaves behind cherished memories with his loving sisters, Ruby Odom (Elzie) and Dora Nisby; his grandsons, Austin and Ryan Truvillion; daughter in law, Mary Truvillion, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Jesse's life was one of faith, wisdom, and service. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew.
