

John Charles “Chuck” Magoni, 89, of Columbus, died on Monday, November 20, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral Services are scheduled on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, 1:00pm, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Dr. Reverend Shane Green and Dr. Reverend Buddy Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall from 11:00-1:00pm prior to the service. Burial will follow at Parkhill Cemetery.
Mr. Magoni, son of the late John Maire "Jazz" Magoni and Martha Nora Ritch Magoni, was born August 30, 1928 at Fort Benning, Georgia.
He was a graduate of Columbus High School, Class of 1946. As an Athlete, Mr. Magoni received a football scholarship to the University of Georgia where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1952 and later a Master’s Degree in Education. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Mr. Magoni joined the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant, serving our country honorably during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, achieving the rank of Major. After his service, he taught and coached at Columbus High School, later retiring, from the Muscogee County School District.
Mr. Magoni was a member at St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Miller Wilson Sunday School Class. He was also a Shriner and a 50 year Mason.
Other than his parents, Mr. Magoni was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Magoni Dahn; and brother, Robert “Bobby” Magoni.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Brannon Magoni; daughter, Cheryl Bynum (Jerry); sons, Mark Magoni (Fran), Morris Magoni, Paul Magoni; grandchildren, Mary Yoder (Peter), Brannon Bynum, Elizabeth Terrell (Nathan), Baxlee Bynum, Katie Magoni, Walker Bynum; and great-granddaughter, Claire Elisabeth Yoder.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church Building Fund or Ukraine Fund, P.O. Box 5116 Columbus, GA 31906.
