

John William Sackie Jr., 61, of Columbus, passed away on August 29, 2017. Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday September 2, 2017 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary at 11:00 am. Visitations will be held on Friday September 1, 2017 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at Striffler- Hamby Mortuary.
John was born on February 2, 1956 to John William Sackie Sr. and Flossie Clines Sackie. He was raised in Columbus and went to Kendrick High School and attended Columbus Tech. John was employed by Holiday Inn Express, Maintenance and Services. He loved NASCAR, outdoor events and festivals, listening to live music from small pubs to large concerts and had developed a recent interest in gardening. Known as a “Mr. Fix It”, he was mechanically talented and was known for helping his family and friends when the call came. His family will miss his presence and he will be remembered as a hard worker and someone who loved to have a good time and loved a good laugh. Coworkers, some who had worked with him for many years, will remember him as a kindhearted close member of their work family and he will be truly missed.
Survivors include: Parents, John and Flossie Sackie of Columbus; two brothers, Michael Sackie (Jackie) of Columbus, Timothy Sackie (Linda) of Montgomery, AL; two sisters, Teresa Sackie Proctor (Charlie) of Columbus and Catherine Sackie Eckstein (Bill) of Columbus; numerous nieces and nephews.
