Joseph Michael Helms Sr.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Edgewood Hall of Striffler – Hamby, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus with interment in Parkhill Cemetery. Rev. Dan Tharpe and Dr. Don Wilhite will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be nieces and nephews of Mr. Helms.

Mr. Helms was born May 13, 1950 in Columbus, GA, son of the late Maxwell Lafayette Helms, Sr. and the late Cubia Dean Nobles Helms. He had lived in Columbus most of his life and retired as partner and operator of Helms Brothers Body Shop.

Mr. Helms was a member of Cascade Hills Church, a mason, and graduate of Jordan High School. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Michael Helms, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia W. Helms of Santa Rosa Beach; a daughter, Katherine Helms Scott (Matthew) of Acworth; two grandsons, Gabriel Michael Scott and Sullivan Parker Scott; two sisters, Diane Helms Dekle and Pam Helms Jones both of Columbus; one brother, Max Helms, Jr. of Columbus; several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice, 200 Grand Blvd., Miramar Beach, FL 32550 in Memory of Joseph Michael Helms.
