Josephine Head Perry was born in Lafayette, Alabama, the fourth child of eight children born to the late Herbert E. and Nonnie Weaver Head. She grew up in Harris County, Georgia and graduated from Mountain Hill School at the age of 16. Being from such a large, close family meant lots of family get-togethers where would always be great food, fun and laughter.
She married the late O. C. Perry on Feb. 17, 1943. They were stationed in Reno, NV and Stockton, CA during World War II and returned to Georgia in Dec., 1945. When her husband (Perry) was ill with emphysema, she spent endless hours caring for him.
Mrs. Perry worked for Civil Service for many years at Ft. Benning and the Social Security Administration and retired in 1982. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and the Bible Learner’s Sunday Class. She was a previous member of Edgewood Baptist where she taught the four year old Sunday School class, and Evangel Temple. Her faith was an example to her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, sisters Mary John Head Myers, Inez Head Willingham, Rhudine Head Layfield and brothers Judson Head, Jack (Ned) Head and Robert Head.
She is survived by her children, Pamela Perry McKee (Al) of Atlanta and Ray Perry (Linda) of Columbus; grandchildren: Angela Perry Urban (Dennis), Kyle Perry of Columbus and Matthew McKee and Jonathan McKee of Atlanta; Great Grandchildren: Abby and Landen Urban of Columbus, brother, Billy Head (Althea) of West Point, GA, and many nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Jo.
She was dearly loved by everyone that she was around. She had a true love for doing for others and her family. She enjoyed being with her family, studying the Bible, cooking, playing solitaire, watching Braves baseball and SEC football and traveling when she was able.
