Joyce Ramey Weekley passed away peacefully July 18, 2025. She was born January 16, 1928, in East Point, Georgia, daughter of Carl H. Ramey and Genie Nash Ramey. Joyce was 97 years of age. She moved to Columbus in 1942, was a graduate of Baker High School in the first class of 1945. Joyce worked at JJ Newberry’s from 1943 until 1955.
Joyce married the love of her life, William Weekley in 1952 and the Lord blessed them with a wonderful marriage of 64 years. She was a loyal member of Morningside Baptist Church, which she and William started attending in 1955. In 1969 she was asked to take over as Librarian of the church library, which she ran until several weeks ago. This brought much joy to her and a lot of other people. She was also Librarian for the Columbus Baptist Association for 15 years. She and her husband also volunteered and supported Brown Bag of Columbus.
Joyce and William traveled extensively. They visited Canada, Mexico, and all the States except Hawaii. Joyce followed William to Germany with two young children where they traveled Europe and made cherished memories.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Genie; her husband, William; three sisters; Doris Ramey, Dorothy Trigg and Carlene Young.
Joyce’s memory will be cherished by her loving children: Bill Weekley (Peggy) and Beverly Porter (Scott); four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; two sisters Gloria Travenski and Sandra Haynie (Sam) and numerous other family members.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Morningside Baptist Church Library, 6065 Morningside Dr., Columbus, GA 31909 and/or to Brown Bag of Columbus, www.brownbagcolumbus.org.
The family will visit with friends Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM in the Fisher Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907. A funeral service to celebrate Joyce will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM with Pastor Matt Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery.
