A celebration of her life will be held at Community Chapel in Pine Mountain Valley, Georgia on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Rick Lipp officiating. Family will visit with friends on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Columbus, Georgia. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM.
Juanita Owenby Peters was born on April 5, 1939 in Covington, Georgia to the late James W. Owenby and Edna J. Rollins Owenby. She was married to the love of her life, James M.L. Peters for 61 years. Juanita worked at several different jobs earlier in life, once she and James started their family she settled into her most rewarding career, as a housewife and stay at home Mom. She also enjoyed singing, writing songs, and sharing the gospel through music. She and her family sang in the gospel groups, “The Gospel Lights” and “Mama’s Dream” from the 1960’s until the late 1990’s. Juanita was an entrepreneur, she started selling Antiques out of her car and eventually opened Juanita’s Antiques, Collectibles and Gifts. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Other than her parents she is also preceded in death by two sons: Robert Peters and Randy Peters.
She leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her loving husband, James M.L. Peters; daughter, Rhonda P. Mounts (Dean); sons: Ronnie L. Peters and Rodney K. Peters (Barrett Parker Peters); grandchildren: Richard Mounts, Rachel Peters, Ryan Peters (Kristen), Rex Mounts (Kristian), Ashleigh Mounts Britt (Russ), and Rebecca Peters; great grandchildren: Natalieght Mounts, Austin Mounts, Bayne Britt, Ashlynn Murray, Hunter Murray, and Luke Murray; sisters: Betty Garner and Donna Haney; brother, William “Bill” Owenby; and numerous other relatives and friends.
