Leon Applewhite May 9, 1931 - September 13, 2010 COLUMBUS, GA— Leon Applewhite, 79, of Columbus, GA died Monday, September 13, 2010 in St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 17, 2010 at Striffler - Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel with interment in Parkhill Cemetery. Rev. Daniel Jones will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Applewhite was born May 9, 1931 in Columbus, GA the son of the late John David Applewhite and the late Lilla Mae Calhoun Applewhite. He was a lifelong resident of Columbus and a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Applewhite retired from Applewhite & Associates after forty five years in the construction business, was a member of Local # 486 Union for twenty five years. He was a member and deacon of Veterans Parkway Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of fifty nine years, Juanita Applewhite; two children, Gary Leon Applewhite and his wife, Mary Ann and Lisa Fay Ledford and her husband, Lindy all of Albany, GA.; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild, a sister, Dorothy Hancock of Jonesboro and a brother, Raymond Applewhite of Columbia, S.C.
