

Leonard Cecil McGuire “Chappy” 89, of Columbus, GA. passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at St. Francis hospital.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. till 12 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home in Danville on Friday, October 13, 2017. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 at Highland Burial Park Cemetery in Danville, VA.
Mr. McGuire was born September 16, 1928 in Pittsylvania County, VA. The son of Lonnie Andrew and Ruby Snead McGuire. He was brother to Herman McGuire, Raymond McGuire (deceased) and Pasty McGuire (deceased).
Mr. McGuire was a retired LTC. Chaplain, served 23 years in the U.S. Army. During this time he was assigned duty stations both stateside and overseas including Germany, Thailand and Viet Nam. Upon his retirement from the military at Ft. Benning, he took a position as Asst. Superintendent of the Chattahoochee County Schools system until his retirement in 1995.
Mr. McGuire was a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God. Not only a man of God, he was a scholar in his own right achieving degrees from Baylor Univ., Southern Baptist Seminary, Columbia Univ. and Roosevelt Univ. He also taught World Religion for Troy State Univ.
Mr. McGuire was married to Allie Dill McGuire for 54 year until her passing in 2003. Survivors include Jeannie McGuire, his wife of 13 years, two sons Griffin C. McGuire (Ellen) of Chesterfield, VA. and Philip A. McGuire (Gail) of Hudson, MI; step-daughter Jan (Van) Borum of Columbus, GA. and stepson Mike (Sue) Hammock of Eufaula, AL; four grand-children, Katie Ranallo, Mitchell McGuire, Ryan McGuire, Erin Henderson and three step grandchildren Heather Nicholson, Matt Borum and Nick Borum; five great grand-children and six step great grand-children.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to a favorite charity in the memory of Mr. McGuire.
