Lois Anne Peterson, age 86, resident of Columbus, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 15, 2019. Funeral services are scheduled at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 4700 Armour Road, Columbus on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, 2 p.m. with Reverend Eric Estes officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby, Columbus. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 from 12 noon till 2 p.m.
Mrs. Peterson, daughter of the late James Porter Michael Kilburn and Kathryn Anna Schreiber Kilburn, was born May 8, 1933 in Springfield, Massachusetts. A Christian woman who loved the Lord, began her life as an adult attending the University of Illinois-Champagne/Urbana, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She then attended the University of Colorado-Boulder and was awarded a Master of Music Degree.
Mrs. Peterson had a heart and passion for children's education and development and served as a Middle and High School Band Director in Battle Creek, Michigan; a teacher for the U.S. State Department in schools for military dependents in France, Germany, and Japan; and Principal at Redeemer Christian Academy. She also had a career with Litho-Krome (Hallmark) where she faithfully worked as a Greeting Card Editor.
Mrs. Peterson's had a true passion for ministering to others and served for many years as church organist and choir director (Grace Lutheran in Clarksville, TN; Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Columbus, GA; and Bethlehem Lutheran, Columbus, GA. She found time to continue her ministry, always having a "servant's heart" in the local community with Mustard Seed, Clarksville, TN (where she received the Jefferson Award); Ongoing Ambassadors for Christ (OAFC), and LWML.
Mrs. Peterson was known by most as "Leadfoot Lois" - living her life with the gas pedal to the floor. She loved music, collecting angels, bowling, gardening, yellow flowers, and crossword puzzles. Mrs. Peterson enjoyed listening to Big Band music and especially Count Basie. Her family learned specific traits from Mrs. Peterson: Humility; Serving the Lord; Honesty and Respect; Work ethic; and Prayer life - she had a hotline to God! The family remembers her laughing at many things including, silly jokes, even when they were bad; giggling as her kids danced down the hall; and singing silly songs to her grandchildren. She loved her family immensely, but above all, she loved the Lord.
Mrs. Peterson married Carl Leland Peterson on December 21, 1965 in Basil, Switzerland and had over 53 years of love for each other and served the Lord together. Four days after Mrs. Peterson went to be with her Lord and Savior, her husband joined her in Heaven.
Mrs. Peterson is survived by one daughter, Lisa Arnholt and her husband Brad of Columbus, GA; two sons, Kevin Peterson and his wife Julie of Independence, KS and Jeff Peterson and his wife Christina of Saint Petersburg, FL; nine grandchildren, Faith, Jared, Hope, Jesse, Freddy Rincon, Leiland, Micah, Zachariah, and Taylor; one great-granddaughter, Naomi; one sister, Barbara Smith of New Hampshire; one brother, James Kilburn and his wife Patricia of Texas; many other relatives and friends.
