A celebration of Lynette’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2023 at Evangel Church with Pastors; Jay Stewart, and Paul Thomas officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. A private family burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until service time at Evangel Church.
Lynette was born on August 14, 1941 to the late James Wiley Railey and Lorene Chapman Railey. She was married to the late Reverend Hal Stewart who served on the staff at Evangel Temple for over 30 years. Lynette was a member of the Jordan High School Band under the direction of Robert M. Barr and played in the Columbus Symphony. She later was in the Bob Barr Community Band that was established in 1988 in his memory. Before her retirement, Lynette was on the office staff of her son, Dr. Tommy Stewart; and also she worked with other high profile executives in Columbus. Lynette was preceded in death by her sister, Sharon Porter.
Survivors include her 3 children: Thomas Russell Stewart (JoAnna) of Panama City Beach, FL, James Alan Stewart (Melanie) of Kannapolis, NC and Jonathan Scott Stewart (Sheree) of Concord, NC a brother, James Neal Railey (Cam) of Columbus, GA, her best friend and adopted family member, Cathy Patrick of Columbus, GA, grandchildren: Russell Ryan Stewart (Kasey) Jacksonville, FL, Matthew Thomas Stewart (Kristin) Spartanburg, SC, Haley Stewart Withrow (James) Landis, NC, Yamile Matthews (Kenny) of Kannapolis, NC, Clayton Dean Stewart (Samantha) of Charlotte, NC, Coleman James Stewart (Marielle) of Kannapolis, NC and Caden Joshua Stewart of Kannapolis, NC, great grandchildren, Worth Withrow, Gray Matthews, Evelyn Matthews, Praise Matthews, Olivia Stewart and Graham Stewart, and uncle, Richard Chapman (Shirley) of Brundidge, AL.
Other family members include, nieces: Lori Denson (Philip) of Hurtsboro, AL, and Brooke Phillips (Brian) of Columbus, GA, nephew, Brian Railey of Columbus, GA, great nieces: Hallie Denson of Hurtsboro, AL, and Lilly Phillips, great nephews: Reid Denson of Columbus, GA, Philip Earl “Buddy” Denson of Hurtsboro, AL, and Carter Phillips of Columbus, GA.
