Marcia Williams Therrien passed away on Friday, September 5th at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 16th, 1953 in Lansing, MI to Roger Wesley and Barbara Buckingham Williams. She spent most of her childhood in Glastonbury, CT. She was one of three girls and the middle sister.
The beloved wife of Paul Therrien, and the proud mother of twins, Jeffrey and Jennifer. She was most proud as grandmother “Mema” to Mary Frances, who she loved and adored. She also had a special love for Tucker, the grand dog.
She graduated from Southern Connecticut State College and later received her Master’s in Education from Columbus State University. After college she moved to Owensboro, KY to begin her teaching career. Before settling in Columbus, GA she taught in Boston, MA and Beaufort, SC. Most of her teaching career was spent teaching for Muscogee County School District at Daniel Middle School and she retired from Double Churches Middle School in 2013, after 37 years of teaching. Marcia had a gift teaching in special education. Her compassion was recognized not only in the classroom but her daily life.
Marcia loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a devout member of Wynnton United Methodist Church where she played in the handbell choir. She enjoyed spending her free time volunteering for various church activities that served the community.
Those who knew Marcia would say that she was strong in her faith and a true example of Christ in how she lived, loved and served others. She has been described by many as one of the kindest and most caring person. The definition of a true friend.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Paul; her children Jeffrey and Jennifer McDaniel (Chris) and her granddaughter Mary Frances. Other survivors include Barbara Williams Cosby (Dana) and Joan Williams Mulleady, Scott Mulleady, Nicole Campbell, great nieces and Therrien families. She is preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of life will take place at Wynnton United Methodist Church on Wednesday September 10th, 2025. Visitation will be at 2pm followed by a service at 3pm.
