Margaret S Bickerstaff, age 102, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
Margaret was born April 1, 1923, in Girard, Alabama (now Phenix City), to the late John Ados and Plassie Cartwright Spence. She lived most of her life in Columbus. She was a member of Evangel Church, a member of Covenant Fellowship Sunday School Class, which she especially enjoyed, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Big Eddy Club.
She began her working career as Executive Secretary to the Co-owner and CEO of Kayser-Lilienthal, Inc; Executive Secretary to the Co-owner and CEO of Martin Theatres Company (now Carmike Cinemas); and retired as Executive Secretary to the Vice President of Finance with the Royal Crown Cola Company.
Margaret showed great love to her close friends, but her greatest loves were God, her parents and her children. She loved being with her family wherever she went. She prized family and friendships. She taught them to love, work and be faithful to God, themselves and each other. Her strength is evident in her children and those who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her caring nature and continues to live on in the many treasured memories of her family, friends and extended family.
Other than her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husbands Robert Terrell Yarbrough, Jr., and Frank J. Bickerstaff, Jr., her son, Robert S. Yarbrough of Columbus, GA, her sister Harriette S. Stuart of Macon, GA., her son-in-law Joseph W. Sandefur, Jr. of Macon, GA, son in law Donald E. Moore of Madison, AL, grandson, D. Spence Moore of Madison, AL and Johnson Wade Yarbrough of Columbus, GA. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth S. Jackson of Columbus, GA; by her four children, Judy Y. Moore of Huntsville, AL, Anita Y. Sandefur of Macon, GA. and Ronald L. Yarbrough and his wife of Opelika, AL.
She was graciously blessed with eleven incredible grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren lovingly adding 3 to her family who knew her as their “Nana”.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, September 20, 2025 in the Fisher Chapel at Striffler Hamby Funeral Home on Macon Road with Pastor Paul Thomas and Pastor Bud Rupel officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Mill Room at the funeral home.
