

Mrs. Margaret Rose “Margie” Norris, age 94, departed her earthly body for the loving arms of Jesus on January 24, 2012. Funeral services will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 1:00 PM. Entombment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until service time.
Mrs. Norris was born on August 22, 1917, in Englewood, Colorado to the late Charles and Aleta Barberis. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald C. Hartley and a brother, Albert Barberis.
Mrs. Norris was a devoted member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 57 years. She served with distinction four times as the Worthy Matron of Fort Benning Chapter #278. She also was a District Grand Deputy and Grand Representative of Georgia in Idaho.
Margie (“Mom”/”Grammy”) loved her family more than anything. Her marquee traits, and most recognizable qualities, were her care, concern, and compassion for others. Her signature smile always brightened those around her.
Survivors include her husband, MAJ (Ret) John G. Norris of Columbus; a daughter Jan C. Lakin (Phillip) of Tulsa, OK, a son, MG (Ret) James J. Cravens, Jr. (Jo Beth) of Simpsonville, SC; five grandchildren, Phillip L. Lakin, Jr. (Adriane) of Tulsa, OK, Dr. Tracey L. Lakin (Dr. Grant Cox) of Tulsa, OK, James J. Cravens, III of Atlanta, GA, Tonya C. Taylor (Derek) of Greenville, SC and Rhonda Osiecki of Henderson, NV; ten great-grandchildren, Brooks, Alex and Cooper Lakin, Kennedy and Joshua Cox, J.R., Cole and Lincoln Taylor, and Kevin Nieves and Christian Osiecki; a sister, Helen Davis of Canby, OR; a brother, Edward Barberis (Ruth) of St. George, UT; and, several nieces and nephews.
Donations may be made in her honor to the Order of the Eastern Star, Fort Benning Chapter #278.
