

He joined the army at the age of 18 and was moved to Ft. Benning Georgia where his family followed. He did four years in the service , serving in Germany and returning back to Columbus Georgia. After he completed his military service, he remained in Columbus with his wife Jackie. While Mark did not have biological children of his own he helped raise his step daughter Rebecca as his own. Mark and Jackie had a rough start after leaving the military, but through those times they managed to build a lawn service and purchase a home. They built a life together where they became pillars of their community by helping many children and adults who lived in the streets, feeding needy families through several different church programs.
Mark Loved helping people and giving away whatever he could to help others. He helped his father in law when he became sick with dementia, Mark became a huge part of the assisted living his father in law lived in. They all loved him. Mark Loved his country , he often wore clothing with the american flag and had flags on his truck.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Anna Ellen McMurphy and Clyde Frank McMurphy, his Brother's, Tim McMurphy and Bob McMurphy.
Mark is survived by his wife, of 43 years Jackie, they had just celebrated their anniversary the Saturday before his passing, His Step-Daughters, Rebecca Mickschl-Redman (David), Michelle Tweedie, and Sharon Tweedie, His grandchildren, Ryan Butler and Brianna Butler, Matthew and Michael Tweddie, His Sister-in-law, Deb McMurphy, and His sisters, Linda Trieb and Bonnie Jackson.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Providence Church, 5401 St Marys Rd, Columbus, GA 31907.
