She was born on June 22, 1966 in Concord, CA to Antonios "Tony" and Demetra "Dee" Panagos. She graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, NE on a full-ride softball scholarship. She studied occupational therapy and moved to Columbus, GA to work at Hughston Orthopedic Hospital. She was a gifted OT that worked for over 20 years until medically retiring from St. Francis Hospital. She married John "Tommy" Courtney on July 26, 1999 and had their daughter, Demetra Courtney in 2001.
Mary truly lived life to the fullest; always eager to go on an adventure with her friends, family and dogs. She had the ability to make people laugh and smile, leaving a positive impact on every person she touched with the extraordinary gift to turn a stranger into a friend. She was an amazing cook, athlete, friend and all-around person.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy; daughter, Deme; and brothers, George and Arthur Panagos. She was a cherished sister-in-law to Ronnie and Debbie Osborne and beloved aunt and cousin to many.
Family, friends, and others whose lives were touched by Mary are invited to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2025 to reminisce, grieve, and support each other. There will be a Celebration of Life following the service at the Courtney home.
