Mary Emma Phipps Hamby, age 94, of Columbus, GA. died Thursday, July 16, 2015. A private family funeral service was held Saturday, July 18, 2015 with burial in Parkhill Cemetery. The Reverend Nicholas Hull officiated.
Mrs. Hamby was born June 24, 1921 in Lee County, AL. the daughter of William H. and Emma Leila Hudson Phipps. She moved to Columbus at an early age and graduated from Jordan High School. She was a homemaker and was married to the late Thelon Ashmore "T.A." Hamby. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbus.
Mrs. Hamby is survived by her daughter, Barbara Hamby Swift and her husband, Phil; her son, Thelon A. Hamby, III and his wife, Pat; 5 grandchildren, Anne Marie Swift, Emmie Swift Chase, Thomas P. "Tom" Swift, Jr., Lucy Hamby Wynne, and Sarah Hamby Holle; 7 great grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Phipps Watson.
