Mary "Sue" Payne

Mary "Sue" Payne, age 72, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2022. A memorial service will be held on May 7, 2022 at 10:00 am at Fairview Baptist Church, 2913 Reese Rd. Columbus, GA.

Sue was born May 15, 1949 in Rutherfordton, North Carolina; the daughter of E.L. Shuman and Mamie Atwood Shuman. She graduated from R-S Central High School. Sue worked for many years for the Muscogee County School District as a line cook in cafeterias. She loved seeing the children each day their smiling faces always brightened her day. Sue married Gary Payne on June 1st, 2011. She enjoyed reading and serving others. She loved her husband Gary, her two children, Scott Wheeler and Tammy Gossett. She was so proud of all 3 of her grandchildren. She always made sure they were happy and enjoying life. She lived her life to the fullest and was kind to all she came in contact with.

Sue is survived by: her husband, Gary Payne; her daughter, Tammy (Robert) Gossett, her son Scott Wheeler; her grandchildren, Rebecca Gossett, Daniel Chase Wheeler, and Averi Hope Daniel.
