

Dr. Michael Burton Williams, 42, of Columbus, GA, passed away suddenly at St. Francis Hospital on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Dr. Williams was born June 14, 1972 in Lakeland, FL. He was an avid outdoorsman who had a passion for his family, loved the ocean and going fishing. After graduation from Emory University in 1994, Mike completed medical school at the University of Miami in 1999. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, and proudly served his country as a Major in the US Army. He served overseas in Afghanistan as a part of the Afghanistan campaign from 2005-2006. He received a Bronze Star Medal, Joint Service Commendation Metal, Army Commendation Metal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, and NATO Medal. After his Army career, he continued to practice Emergency Medicine at Martin Army Hospital at Fort Benning, GA.
Dr. Williams is survived by his loving wife, Kirstin Mix, of Columbus, GA, children Matthew and Emmie Williams, mother Diana Williams of Lakeland, FL, sister Amy Williams of Lakeland, FL, as well as two nieces, other family members, and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in honor of Dr. Williams to be made to Kirstin Mix, Children's Education Fund (in memory of Michael Williams) at any Sun Trust Bank. Online condolences may be offered at wwwshcolumbus.com.
The family will receive guests Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm in the St Elmo Room of Striffer-Hamby, 471 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA. A celebration of Dr. Williams' life will be Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 2:00 pm in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby followed by interment with full military honors. Ed Wilson will be officiating.
