MSG (Ret) John Charles Gray, age 89, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Tuesday November 20, 2018At St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. MSG (Ret) John was born July 23, 1929 in Kingsburg, Illinois to Vena H Gray and Ralph J Gray.
MSG Gray served his country proudly in the United States Army in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, along with various post in Europe and The United States. While in he was stationed in Germany, he met and married the” love of his life” in 1951. They were married for 67 years. He loved being a soldier. Upon retiring from the Army, he was a salesman for Encyclopedia Americana, and later a salesman for Montgomery Ward until retiring again. He enjoyed working in his yard, traveling thru Europe, singing, and most of all, he loved his family and his buddy “Coco”. He will always be remembered as a devoted Husband and Father.
MSG (Ret) John was preceded in death by his father, Ralph J Gray and mother, Vena H Gray; brothers, Gail Borden Gray, Ralph Grifford Gray and Jerry Gray. He is survived by his wife, Ingeborg Weiss Gray; daughter, Evelyn Gray; sister, Virginia Boutwell and brothers, Robert Gray, Hughes Gray and his wife Faye.
A visitation for family and friends for MSG (Ret) Gray will be held Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA 31907. A Celebration of MSG (Ret) Gray's Life will follow at 3:00 PM with Burial and a Committal Service with Full Military Honors at Parkhill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Military Honor Guard.
