
Nancy Snider Martin June 30, 1928 - October 7, 2010 COLUMBUS, GA— Nancy Snider Martin, age 82, died on October 7, 2010 at her residence. Memorial services are scheduled at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 10, 2010, 4 p.m., with Reverend (Dr) Buddy Cooper officiating. Private graveside services are being held prior to the service at Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus, GA., according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. The family will receive friends at the home of Dr. and Mrs. William M. Harper on Saturday, October 9, 2010 from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. Mrs. Martin, daughter of the late Herbert Bruce Snider, Jr and Lulie Irwin Young Snider, was born June 30, 1928 in Columbus. She attended Columbus public schools and graduated from Sweet Briar College. Mrs. Martin was the Past President of the Woman's Society of Christian Service at St. Paul United Methodist Church; the Junior League of Columbus, the Historic Columbus Foundation; the Wynnton School PTA; the Junto Study Club; the Dogwood Garden Club; and the Team Olive Garden Club. She served as Town Chairman of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America and was a Vice President of the State Society. Mrs. Martin served as chairman of the first Museum Guild Flying High, of the Heritage Ball, and of the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary Mardi Gras Ball on two occasions. She and Mr. Martin were for several years the Director and Captain of the Mardi Gras Ball. Mrs. Martin was a former member of the boards of the CFA; the Musemont Arts Camp; the Symphony Guild; Sally Little League Baseball; the Sr. Francis Hospital Auxiliary; and the Administrative Board of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild. She was named the Honored Lady by HCF in 2007. Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, William Harbert Martin. She is survived by her four children, John Catlett Martin II and his wife Sallie Turner Martin, Lucy Martin Jackson and her husband James William Jackson, Jr., of Montgomery, AL, William Harbert Martin, Jr., and Elinor Martin Harper and her husband Dr. William Madison Harper, IV. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Katherine Martin Krieg and her husband Richard Justin Krieg, Elizabeth Dykes Martin, Lulie Martin Wallace and her husband Harrison Carl Wallace, John Catlett Martin III, James William Jackson III, Elinor Young Jackson, Frances Martin Jackson, William Harbert Martin III, Charles Foster Martin, Carson Bradley Harper, William Martin Harper; great-grandson, George Martin Krieg; two sisters-in-law, Mary Martin Campbell of Columbia, South Carolina and Memory Richards Martin; a brother-in-law, Wilfred Edward Gross, Jr., and his wife Beverly Chapman Gross; and several nieces and nephews.
