Naomi was the youngest of seven children born to Cornelius Mitchell Jr. and Nobuko Miyazaki. She was a beautiful and precocious child, inheriting her remarkable intelligence, quick wit and keen (sometimes raw) sense of humor from her father and from her mother, she inherited a beautiful and infectious personality. She was outgoing and made everyone she encountered feel accepted and loved. She never met a stranger.
Naomi was born in Shirley, Massachusetts and traveled the world as an Army brat before settling in Columbus, Georgia. She attended Kendrick High School and following high school, she worked for Wade Cleaners and Henri’s Formal Wear. Her amazing work ethic and dedication to customer service, earned her the friendship, trust, and respect of her employers and customers.
Naomi married Edward Dorsey in 2010 and together they raised their fur babies. Although they separated in 2019, they remained friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Ronald Mitchell and Arch Mitchell Sr. She is survived by her brother, Cornelius Mitchell III (Dorrie) and her sisters, Mary DaPonte (Jose), Viola Lee (Paul), and Ruth Fuentes.
Naomi is also survived by her numerous nieces and nephews who brought her so much joy and laughter. They affectionately referred to her as "Funtie," the fun aunt. She had endless patience with them, and they knew there was nothing Auntie Nay Nay wouldn’t do for them! Ultimately, Naomi’s dogs were her children. Each and every one of them were precious to her. She leaves behind, her Sugar Ray, a sweet companion who brought her immense joy and love, and whom she cherished deeply.
She also leaves behind a host of good friends that were there for her when she needed them most. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their love and support.
Throughout her health issues Naomi maintained a vibrant and cheerful attitude. She always put on a brave face and found a reason to laugh and cut up with whoever was around. Her strength and resilience through tough times were an example to all of us.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. A future date is being set for a memorial service.
