

A graveside service with full military honors will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 10:00 AM in Parkhill Cemetery with Reverend Homer Frazier officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, 31907. The family will receive friends this evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
SFC (Ret.) Bohnak was born August 3, 1937 in Chicopee, MA, son of the late Peter A. Bohnak, Sr., and Bertha Tremble Bohnak. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he honorably served his country for 20 years. During his distinguished military career he taught at the Armor Infantry School and was a member of the U.S. Military Pistol Team. SFC (Ret.) Bohnak was also recognized as a Distinguished Instructor of Army Officer’s Courses. After his military career he went to work at Colonial Bakery for 13 years and Pratt & Whitney/ Precision Components International for 13 years. SFC (Ret.) Bohnak also loved the outdoors and was well respected and known for his expert fishing skills. He was also a member of the Retired U.S. Pistol Shooters Club. We will miss his presence daily, but his memory will live forever in our hearts.
In addition to his parents, SFC (Ret.) Bohnak was preceded in death by two brothers, John Paul “Jack” Bohnak and Wayne Bohnak all of Chicopee, MA.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 ½ years, Aurelia Sue Andrews Bohnak of Columbus, GA; two daughters, Tonja Bohnak Edenfield Dempsey (Allen) of Cataula, GA, and Sonja Bohnak Robinson (John) of Columbus, GA; five grandchildren, Julie E. Vickery (Jerry) of Columbus, GA, Kellie E. Kazmierczak (Robbie) of Columbus, GA, Christopher J. Walka (Amanda) Stationed in Aviano, Italy, Jacob M. Edenfield of Midland, GA, and Logan G. Robinson of Columbus, GA; two great granddaughters, Gracie and Allie Vickery of Columbus, GA; three sisters, Kathy Stanek (Sam), Joannie Cavette, and Sandy Gewinner all of Chicopee, MA; two sisters-in-law, Frances Seigfred (Marshall) of Manchester, GA, and Barbara Fleharty (Bill) of Columbus, GA; one brother-in-law, Robert “Butch” Andrews (Sandy) of Columbus, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
