

Prentiss Danforth Neal, Jr., age 75, resident of Seale, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Columbus Hospice. Funeral services will be held at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Saturday, February 11, 2017, 11 a.m. with Pastor Seth Hon officiating. Interment will follow at Linwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the St. Elmo Room of the funeral home on Friday, February 9, 2017 from 5-7 p.m.
Mr. Neal, son of the late Prentiss Danforth Neal and Carolyn Norris Neal, was born October 29, 1941 in Columbus, Georgia. He was retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture where he enjoyed working as a crop adjuster for over 20 years. He was also an appraiser/adjuster for the FDA and private insurance companies.
Mr. Neal spent the majority of his life in agriculture where he farmed and bought/sold farm equipment. He had a strong passion for the outdoors where he maintained timberland, and enjoyed spending time both fishing and hunting. Mr. Neal was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
He was actively involved in the community, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi; Sons of the American Revolution; Director, Russell County Farmers Federation; Director, Russell County Cattleman’s Association; Alabama Tree Farmers Association; Alabama Treasure Forest; American Society of Agricultural Equipment Appraisers; Uchee Creek Volunteer Fire Department; and Russell County Historical Society.
Mr. Neal was preceded in death by a brother, John Neal.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Peggy Neal of Seale, Alabama; daughter, Julie Neal Rydberg and her husband Andrew of Litchfield, Minnesota; son, Danny Neal of Seale, Alabama; two brothers, Gus Neal of Gulf Breeze, Florida and Bill Neal and his wife Diane of Seale, Alabama; four grandchildren, Parker and Mary Beth Neal and Asher and Simon Rydberg; many other relatives and friends.
