SFC (Ret.) Ravon Tipton, age 90, passed away on February 18, 2012. Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 20, 2012 in Parkhill Cemetery at 2:00 PM, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 – 5:00 PM.
SFC Tipton was born on February 2, 1922 to the late James Thomas and Cordie Bobitt Tipton in Millport, AL. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII and Vietnam, as well as being stationed in Germany and Italy. He retired after 25 years with the rank of Sergeant First Class. Mr. Tipton was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed dearly. He was considered by many to be an excellent fisherman but he also enjoyed hunting. Mr. Tipton was preceded in death by a son, James Tipton.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 65 years, Virginia Tipton of Columbus; two daughters, Ellie Pate (Mike) of Whitesville, GA and Sheila Tipton of Columbus, GA; four grandchildren, Michael Lewis, Virginia Hamilton, Wesley Tipton and Alan Tipton; seven great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Tipton and several nieces and nephews.
