He was a graduate of Columbus High School and attended both South Georgia College and Auburn University. Raymond was a veteran who honored his country as a sergeant in the National Guard and after years of hard work in sales with multiple companies, he retired in 2020.
There were many things that Raymond loved, his family and his faith were always number one. He spent time being a member of both First United Methodist Church in Opelika and First Baptist Church of Columbus, two churches because his love and support for the Lord was strong.
Football had a big place in his heart; Auburn football and Bobby Bowden reunions were something he always looked forward to. Having played football at South Georgia College, he got to know Bobby Bowden as not just his coach, but also as his friend. Raymond always had a big smile on his face when it came to helping others and seeing old friends because he knew everyone and enjoyed people as a whole.
He married Katherine South, together they shared a beautiful marriage and family for 37 years.
Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Katherine South, two children—Eddy (Sally) South and Debbie (Greg) Parker, and three grandchildren—Savannah Thomas, Kate (Will) Routh, and Jim (Maddie) Parker, and his two great-grandchildren—Roan Natschke and William Routh.
A private family memorial service is planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made South Georgia State College Foundation for Hawks Athletic Scholarship Fund, 100 West College Park Dr., Douglas, GA 31533 or First Baptist Church Columbus, PO Box 828, Columbus, GA 31902
