(Ret.) Fire Marshal David Lawrence Jones

(Ret.) Fire Marshal, David Lawrence Jones, 66, of Fortson, Georgia, died on Friday, November 24, 2017 at his residence surrounded by family. A Graveside Service with full Fire Fighter’s honors is scheduled on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 2:00pm in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road Columbus, with Pastor Scott Drew officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, November 27, 2017 in the Mill Room of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road Columbus, from 6:00-8:00pm.

Mr. Jones, son of the late Thomas Robert Jones Sr. and Ruth Rarden Jones, was born April 24, 1951 in Southern Pines, North Carolina. He worked for the Columbus Fire Department for 33 years, retiring as Fire Marshal in 2004. Mr. Jones was instrumental in raising funds to purchase the Fire Safety House in Columbus to teach school age children fire safety.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathryn Lynn Jones; sister, Karen Susan Jones; and brothers, Thomas R. Jones Jr. and Ronnie Jones.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Rebekah Danielly Jones; daughters, Jennifer Dailey (Dan), Laura Golden (Elton); granddaughters, Brittany Pell, Ashley Dailey; grandson, Parker David Golden; brother, Donnie Jones (Vickie); and numerous nieces and nephews.
