

Arrangements under the direction of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA.SFC (Ret) Richard Leo McIllaney, 88, of Columbus, GA, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, November 15, 2017. The family will welcome guests for visitation Sunday, November 19, 2017 5:00-7:00 pm in the St. Elmo Room of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA. A Celebration of Richard’s Life will be Monday, November 20, 2017 at 1:00 pm in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, followed by a Committal Service and full Military Honors at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with Reverend Mike Reeves officiating.
Mr. McIllaney was born September 19, 1929 in Bay City, MI to his late parents Emmet McIllaney and Edna Paul McIllaney. He retired from the US Army after serving his country in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Mr. Mac also owned and operated Mac-Dav Construction Co for over 30 years. He loved his family and spending time with them. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Along with his parents, SFC McIllaney is preceded in death by his brother Emmet McIllaney and sister Catherine Martinez. He is survived by: his loving wife of 32 years, Cathrein McIllaney; two sisters, Delores Lafave of Fowler, MI, and Mary Joles of Bay City, MI; one son, Fred (Mary) Holdinghausen; two daughters, Christina (Phil) Sims, and Heidi (Mark) Saxon; eight grandchildren, Kevin Sims, Kelly (Scott) Franklin, Tony (Marysue) Saxon, Cathrein (Jeremy) Silva, Andy Saxon, John Holdinghausen, David Holdinghausen, and Nicole Nichols; seven great grandchildren, Cooper and Charlotte Franklin, Corina and Olivia Silva, Samantha Saxon, Kiyleigh and Kolbri Nichols ; nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
