
Richard Corley Terrell March 24, 1926- April 15, 2015 Columbus, Georgia- Richard Corley Terrell, age 89 and a resident of Columbus, GA, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Columbus Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 19, 2015 in the chapel at Striffler Hamby Mortuary with Dr. Kevin Calhoun officiating. Private family internment will be held on Monday at Riverdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 3:00 and 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. Richard was born in Columbus, GA, to the late James Theodore Terrell and Pearl Corley Terrell. He was a loving and supportive husband and father who made his family the center of his world. Richard enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time at his home on the river. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and returned to graduate from Jordan Vocational High School. After attending Auburn University and Georgia Southwestern University, he pursued a career in sales. Richard worked for Schwobilt Clothing Store in sales and management for more than 25 years. He joined the sales team at AFLAC in 1976 and retired in the late 1990's. During his life, he was a member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church and supported the community through membership in the Lions Club and the Columbus Jaycees. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his three siblings, his wife of 65 years, Mary Whitley Terrell, and his granddaughter, Kendall Blair Crawford. Survivors include four daughters, Jan Crawford (Doug), Judy Whitt (Randy), Jill Yates (Jeff) and Jennifer Horne (Steve) all of Columbus, Georgia. He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren, Tripp Crawford (Christine), Erin Crawford, Whit Crawford, Vicki Hammock, Brad Whitt, Ryan Yates (Taylor), Justin Yates (Kendall), Jenna Yates, Clay Horne, Mandi Horne, Laurie Skibbe (Ryan), Kathleen Horne, great-grandchildren, Cole Crawford, C.J. Hammock, Chris Hammock, Leslie Hammock and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend special thanks to Sandy Jester and Mandy Holcombe for the warm and compassionate care they provided.
