

Russell Dennis Carman, age 66, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011. Graveside services will be held at Parkhill Cemetery on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 2:00 PM, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.
Mr. Carman was born on May 4, 1944 in East Hartford, Connecticut to the late Charles Wallace Carman, Sr. and Katherine O'Flarty Carman. He served two tours in Vietnam in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in the 82nd Airborne, achieving the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal and a Purple Heart, among other medals. He was retired from Tom's Foods. Mr. Carman was preceded in death by a son, Charles Anthony Carman, two brothers, Charles Carman and Robert Carman and a sister, Charlotte Chamberlain.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Nina Carman of Cusseta; three children, Maria Johns (Jeff) of Lanett, AL, Mia Guthrie (John) of Columbus and Lisa Holland (David) of Panama City, FL; eight grandchildren, Joseph, Sarah, Matthew, Ronnie, Nikkey, Rachelle, David, Jr., and Devin; seven great-grandchildren, Abbi, Joseph II, Maddie, Katelynn, Alexis, Matthew II and Liam; two sisters, Kathy Carman and Mary Ann Ludwig, both of Manchester, CT.
