

Sam was born March 3,1931 in Stigler, OK and served in the US Army. He was honored to have served as a Green Beret in the Army's Special Forces Unit. He was an Airborne Ranger, Paratrooper and infantryman and saw combat in Korea and Vietnam. He was a Senior Officer in Counterinsurgency and Special Warfare and received the Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Air Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal and many others.
He is the son of Jesse and Lucy Link and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eleanor Merz Link, two sons, Mark and Renee Link and Jeff and Jennifer Link, two daughters, Kim and Jeff Adams and Cindy and Larry Cannon. Sam has 13 grandchildren, Megan and Will Cox, Jacob Cannon, Bowie Link, Samantha Link and William Shida, Marc Link and Haylee Colquitt, Weston and Kasey Link, Christopher Link, Matthew Adams and Daniel Adams. He has two great grandchildren, Vivian and Noah Cox.
The family will have visitation at Striffler Hamby, 4071 Macon Road in Columbus Monday, December 28th from 2:00-4:00pm. A memorial service will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1232 Double Churches Road in Columbus Tuesday, December 29th at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you either make a contribution to the Wounded Warrior Project or the next time you are out having dinner with your family and a service man or woman is near you, please offer to pay for their meal and thank them for their service. This was dad's favorite thing to do as he knew the sacrifices made by these brave men and women.
