She was a native of Columbus, Georgia and although she did attempt a relocation to the west coast after marrying her husband, the late Bruce Willis Berreth, it did not last. Her longing to return to the familiarities of a southern upbringing quickly brought her back to her hometown where she made her way through this wild world for the next 55 years.
She is survived by her younger sister Deborah Chalk Frith. She is also survived by her loving daughter, Holly Berreth Walker, husband Felix Augustus Walker, III and their two sons, Chipper and Ward, her son Bruce Ryan Berreth, wife Mary Ellen Berreth and their three children Elsie, Benjamin and Timothy. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Willis Berreth, her parents, William Hardin and Melba Ruth Chalk, and her sister Gloria Jean Hopkins.
Sharon loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as Gran. When she wasn’t out spoiling them with shopping trips and ice cream, she could be found passionately socializing with people at their sporting events.
Sharon was a people person, and she had a very deep fear of missing out on any party or social gathering. And she enjoyed all of it, dining out, live theatre, potluck suppers, musicals, weddings, holiday gatherings, religious events, sporting events, office parties and even funerals. If there were people to talk to or interact with, she was there. Often arriving casually late but also making sure she was the last guest to leave. All of the things that used to drive her husband crazy.
Sharon spent 30 years as a successful real estate agent in Columbus, Georgia and was a lifetime member of Awesome Alley along with her real estate partner, Fran Calhoun at Caldwell Banker KPDD. She and Fran spent countless hours together and touched thousands of lives. It was the perfect career for Sharon. A job helping and connecting others that felt like a hobby and that also made her money. She truly loved the people she met and worked with and treated everyone like family. Many became her lifelong friends.
She can best be remembered by all things Elvis Presley, Coca-Cola and the beach. Any one of those three topics could spark an hours long conversation with her. Sharon was a professional shopper and did not pass up on any deals. She loved clothing stores, antique shops, and hand lotions. Some of her happiest moments were when she was shopping. Not for herself, but for someone else. Sharon truly lived out her Christian faith through her unlimited generosity towards others.
Sharon was generous, kind, perpetually happy, fun, and loving. She never met a stranger, only new and lasting friends wherever she went. If you knew her personally, professionally or happened to be a member of the coveted Splinter Group, then you knew about her dedication to friendships. She was a loving and supportive wife, a gracious and caring mother, and a fun and carefree grandmother. At times, she was larger than life and we will miss her dearly.
