GySgt. USMC (Ret.) Shelby E. Monk

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm, on Friday, May 20, 2016 in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby 4071 Macon Road Columbus, GA., with Pastor Sam Mathis officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 pm, on Thursday, May 19, 2016 in the St. Elmo room of Striffler-Hamby.

Mr. Monk was born May 22, 1936 in Ozark, Alabama to the late Shelby Lee Monk and Rosa Lee Phillips Monk. In addition to his parents Mr. Monk was preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher Monk and a great-grandson, Shelby Allen Kurtti. Mr. Monk served his Country in the United States Marine Corps a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict; he retired as a gunnery sergeant.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lou Ann Monk, sons: David (Sharon) Monk of Fortson, GA, Larry Monk of West Point, GA, and Bill (Debbie) Monk of Phenix City, AL, one daughter: Linda (David) Parker of Phenix City, AL, a brother: Charles Robert (Sue) Monk of Kerrville, TX, and one sister: Margaret Ruth Drew of Columbus, GA, six grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to; Upatoi Baptist Church Youth Ministry 13400 Macon Rd, Upatoi, GA 31829-2122.
